The M.O.M.'s ball (Misfits, Orphans, & Masqueraders ) has been a New Orleans tradition for (some think) 27 years.  The party first started when some dedicated fans of "The Radiators" band got together and decided to host an anti-establishment alternative to the more traditional Mardi Gras balls that were for the most part held for the upper crust of New Orleans society.  Their ball was hosted out of a VFW hall were these people and 12-20 of their closest friends went each year lugging ice-chest full of beverages and listened to the Radiators play their unique Mardi Gras sound (Something they only play at the ball) till 4 or 5 AM in the morning.

My brother is one of the members and I can remember him each year trying to convince me to go.  I finally relented (I think in '77) and became a believer such that I have only missed one since then.

Over the years that ball has grown and is now hosted in "Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World".  There are only three rules to the ball:

1) You must wear a costume or nothing at all to get in.

2) You must have a good time

3) You will enjoy the Radiators and become a fan for life !
